Matt Muellenweg’s favorite WordCamp was in the Philippines
A WordCamp Buenos Aires particpant writes:
There was a pool between the stage and the public, bats flew all the place, the Mic was a Karaoke machine.
It looks like Matt was referring to the event that took place in Davao, not the big one in Manila. Still, I’m glad Filipinos have made such a great impression on him. First it was the WordCamp Philippines t-shirt design, and now this.

WordPress.org’s Showcase section promotes WP-powered sites that push the envelope
Those who wonder whether WordPress should be used for more than just blogs might think twice with the launch of Showcase, a new WordPress.org section which features “some of the best and brightest WordPress users, who are using it to do a whole lot more than blog”.
WordPress.org, WordPress.com, WordPress.com VIP, and WordPress MU users are all welcome to submit their sites. Screenshots are updated almost in real time.
This is definitely a gallery-type site I’d want my site to be featured in! It’s great that WordPress is adding more features to strengthen its user community. I sure hope many Philippine sites make the cut.
Blog Action Day 2008: Poverty
Blog Action Day 2008 happens this October 15 and the topic is poverty. Exactly what is it?
Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.

This year’s topic is especially close to Filipino hearts, so I’m sure a lot of bloggers from the Philippines will be participating. Be sure to join as well!

Matt Mullenweg gives a shoutout to WordCamp Philippines at WordCamp SF 2008
Christian Cabuay reports that Matt Mullenweg mentioned WordCamp Philippines at this year’s WordCamp, held in San Francisco. Apparently the t-shirts for the local WordCamp are his favorite so far. Here’s the video:
People from the audience pointed out that the sun is from the Philippine flag. To the organizers, especially the t-shirt designer Andrew dela Serna, congratulations!

Not sure how many iPhone (or iPod Touch) users are there in the Philippines, but if you’re a WordPress user as well, you’ll be happy to know that the WordPress for iPhone app has been released in the iPhone App Store (note: link opens iTunes).
This is the official blogging app for WordPress and is released by Automattic. It was, however, developed by a company called Effigent. Here are the listed features for the WordPress mobile blogging application:
- Support for WP.com blogs and self-installed blogs version 2.5.1 and higher
- Embedded Safari for true previews of posts
- Full tag and category support
- Photo support for both camera pictures as well as library photos
- Support for multiple blogs
- Ability to password protect a post, save as a draft, or mark the post for later review
- Auto-recovery. This will recover posts which have been interrupted by phone calls
