Litratong Pinoy

Litratong Pinoy

Litratong Pinoy is a website made up of weekly photoblogging challenges, i.e., lingguhang palaro for all Filipino bloggers (as well as Filipino-speaking foreigners) who have an inclination towards photography.

The rules are simple. First you must register at the website and leave a few personal details. Then, every Thursday you’ll post a photo corresponding to the week’s theme on your own blog. The supporting essay for the photo should be written in Tagalog (although Taglish is permitted). You will need to post 2 times before you become a full-fledged L.P. member.

Litratong Pinoy is a great way to unleash one’s own creativity and the love of the Filipino language at the same time.

Wanderous

Wanderous

Wanderous is not your ordinary travel blog. The authors of this website, Aissa and Ryan, believe that (a) travel should not be limited to the filthy rich; (b) we should learn more about the Philippines and support local tourism; and (c) food is a wonderful thing.

The reviews and tips on this blog are really helpful and practical, since they draw from the personal experiences of Aissa and Ryan themselves. And judging from the amount of travel they’ve been doing so far, it looks like one can gain a lot of advice from them.

Perhaps the best part about Wanderous is that it figures out ways for you to travel without breaking the bank, and tirelessly reports the latest travel packages and promos you can take advantage of. It’s quite difficult to keep track of what Cebu Pacific or Asian Spirit is offering every single day, and we’re glad to have Wanderous do that for us!

Filipina Images

Filipina Images

Filipina Images is an initiative that helps reshape how other other people view Philippine women online. All it takes is for you to register at the website and write a post with a Filipina-centric theme.

Chances are that the prominent entry you will find on the first page showcases the keywords, “Filipino girls, Filipina dating, Philippine women.” Search for “Filipina.” You’ll most likely notice that six out of 10 sites are NOT devoted to the advancement and accomplishments of the Filipina.

The Filipina of the Future deserves a more empowered, diverse image online. Multiple, complex, and whole.

The site is also holding a writing contest still about Filipinas (deadline is on March 15), together with WikiPilipinas. But if writing is really not your thing, there are other ways you can help with the campaign, notably by linking the word “Filipina” to more useful sites.

One great thing about WordPress is that it’s very search engine friendly, and since one of the main goals of this site is to change how Filipinas are being represented through web searches, Filipina Images is one step closer to that.

PinoyPress

PinoyPress

We’re still in a current events mood here at WordPress Philippines and so it’s no surprise to have PinoyPress as our featured website of the week. What makes this Philippine news website different from the rest? Easy: it’s powered by WordPress.

It’s a feat to turn a piece of blogging software into a content management system to handle oodles and oodles of content as newspapers usually do. But as many people are slowly discovering, WordPress is equipped to handle that job. We commend PinoyPress’ forward thinking and ability to do that while at the same time diligently cover what’s going on in the Philippines.

Inquirer Blogs

This week, we’re featuring not just one but twenty-three blogs! All of them are under the Philippine Daily Inquirer website, INQUIRER.net.

Inquirer is arguably the most popular, most up-to-date, and most high-tech Philippine publication online. And they’ve taken it a step further through its roster of blogs that cover topics like video games, Apple, music, sports, science, TV, real estate, travel, girls, and even—you guessed it—blogging. It looks like they’ve drawn inspiration from the New York Times and its WordPress-powered blogs.
